Request to Review the 90-Day Lock-In Period for SIM Portability

Language:

Respected TRAI Team,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the 90-day lock-in period for SIM portability after switching to a new network. While I understand that this rule ensures stability and prevents excessive porting, it creates an unnecessary burden on consumers due to the mismatch between recharge cycles and the lock-in period.

Most telecom operators offer recharge plans with a validity of 28 days, and when multiplied by three, it equals 84 days. However, the 90-day lock-in period forces consumers to perform an additional recharge even if they wish to port out after three months. This not only adds to the financial burden but also feels unfair, especially when the consumer is dissatisfied with the current service.

I kindly request TRAI to consider reducing the lock-in period to 84 days, which aligns with the three recharge cycles. This change will provide more flexibility to users while still maintaining stability for telecom operators.

Thank you for addressing this concern. I hope you will take necessary steps to make the process more consumer-friendly.
