The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MCC) is the local urban civic body that governs the city of Chandigarh. It was formed in 1994 under the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976. The MCC is responsible for providing various municipal services such as water supply, sewerage, sanitation, solid waste management, street lighting, fire fighting, health, education, urban planning, and taxation.
The MCC is divided into four zones (Central, South, East, and West), each headed by a zonal commissioner. The zones are further divided into 26 wards. These are departments of the MC Chandigarh about which citizens initially register a complaint at the grievance redressal cell.
