Jharkhand Police is the law enforcement department of the state government of Jharkhand. The Police administration is divided into Non-Field and Field Police departments. In Non-Field, major departments that come directly under the Director General of Police (DGP) Office are CID, STF, Railways, Special Branch, Traffic, and others. The Field police is organized into major 4 levels.
If a citizen wants to file a police complaint or an FIR, they have to visit the local police station or call 112, an emergency helpline number to report an incident. Citizens can also lodge an online e-FIR or Police complaint through CCTNS or report a crime. Visit the link below for more details:

If your complaints related to citizen services or other issues are not addressed within the specified period, you should escalate the case or complaint to the next level of police authority.
The Levels of Police Complaint Escalation:
- Level 1: Superintendent of Police (SP), District
- Level 2: Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Range
- Level 4: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Zone
- Level 3: Director General of Police (DGP), Jharkhand Police
While escalating your grievance, must include a reference/acknowledgement number or copy of the receipt (if submitted a written complaint) in the grievance letter or email.
To report cybercrime, call 1930 or register complaints to cyber police through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
Please Note: For unresolved complaints about citizen services or police conduct, file an online grievance via “CMO Jharkhand – Public Grievance Redressal Portal (IPGRS)” directed to the Appellate Officer for Jharkhand Police within the Home Department of the Government of Jharkhand.

If you have complaints that are not resolved at the local police station or circle office then escalate your complaint to the District Police Headquarters. Finally, you can approach the Superintendent of Police (SP) in your district.
Don’t forget to provide the reference/acknowledgement number of the previously lodged complaint at the local police station.

Level 2: Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG)
Each range is headed by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG). So, DIG is responsible for law and order and police administration in the districts of that Range. Level 4: Director General of Police (DGP), Jharkhand Police
The Director General of Police (DGP) is head of the Jharkhand Police and has administrative control over all police matters in every administrative department (Non-Field and Field Polices) including the the State Police Headquarters (DGP Office), Special Units, Zonal Inspector General of Police (IGP), and Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). If complaints that are submitted to any of these departments or offices are unresolved, it is recommended to escalate the disputed matter to the DGP Office (Police Headquarters).
