How to File an e-FIR or Police Complaint to the Uttarakhand Police?

The Uttarakhand Police operates an integrated Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS), enabling residents to report incidents. Citizens can lodge police complaints or file online e-FIRs (non-criminal) for cases concerning unknown accused or Non-Serious Reports.

Difference between police complaint and FIR:

  • Police Complaint: This can be oral or written, accusing someone of an offence, applicable for both cognizable and non-cognizable crimes without a specific complaint format.
  • FIR (First Information Report): Initial information, submitted orally or in a written format on plain paper, about cognizable offences (civil/criminal) to the police station.

Note that the FIR must be registered with the officer in charge or SHO of the Police Station, initiating a police investigation. Based on the FIR, the Magistrate may take subsequent action.

Be aware of your rights and safeguard against misconduct such as corruption or harassment by police officials, as defined in the “citizen charter” of the Uttarakhand Police.
