Telangana State Police is the law enforcement agency for the state of Telangana. It was created from the remnants of the Andhra Pradesh Police on June 2, 2014. The Police Department is headed by the Director General of Police and headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana. It comes under the Home Department of the government of Telangana.

Major special units and departments, such as:
- Intelligence
- Crime Investigation Department (CID)
- Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)
- Greyhounds and Octopus
- TSSP (Armed Reserve Force)
- Special Protection Force (SPF)
Other special departments are Prisons and Correctional Services, Disaster Response and Fire Services, and Railways and Road Safety for the enforcement of law and order, traffic regulation, and safety measures on the railways and roads.
Administrative Structure of Telangana Police:
- Districts: Each police district is headed by a District Superintendent of Police. Further, each district is divided into Subdivisions, Circles and police stations.
- Ranges: Each range is headed by an Inspector General of Police (IGP). The four ranges are Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, and Karimnagar.
- Zones: Each zone is headed by an Additional Director General of Police (ADG). Two zones are West and North.
- Commissionerates: These are urban police units, headed by a Commissioner of Police (CP). Nine Commissionerates are Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda, Karimnagar, Warangal, Ramagundam, Nizamabad, Kothagudem, and Siddipet.
- DGP Office: It is the headquarters of the Telangana Police, headed by the Director General of Police (DGP).

How to File an Online e-FIR or Complaint to Telangana Police?
Citizens can report a criminal or civil incident to the Telangana (TSP) Police online or its nearest local police station. For the online FIR, use the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) of the TS Police.
Before this, you should know the difference between a Police Complaint and an FIR:
- Police Complaint: This is an informal complaint, and can be submitted orally or in writing. The police complaint is applicable for both cognizable and non-cognizable crimes.
- FIR: First Information Report to the police with initial information about cognizable offences. This should be submitted to a local police station.

Grievance Redressal
Citizens can file a police complaint online or offline with Telangana Police. You can use the CCTNS-TSP Portal for complaints or FIRs, dial the 112 (ERSS) Police emergency helpline number, and use the official police website/apps. Alternatively, visit the local police station to submit a written complaint/FIR or call the local police helpline number.

The grievance redressal mechanism of Telangana Police has 4 levels within each administrative division:
- Level 1: Superintendent of Police (SP), District
- Level 2: Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Range
- Level 4: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Zone
- Level 3: Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana Police
Police Commissionerate: You can escalate the case to the Commissioner of Police (CP), City Commissionerate. Further, you may approach the DGP Office.
Note: In case of unsatisfactory resolution of concerns related to citizen services or police functioning, you may file an online grievance through the “Prajavani- Public Grievance Redressal Portal (CPGRAMS)” directed to the Appellate Officer for Telangana Police within the Home Department of the Government of Telangana.
Level 1: File an e-FIR or Complaint, Telangana State Police
To initiate a police investigation in Telangana, you can file a complaint or an FIR at the local police station, either in person or online e-FIR, depending on the nature of the case or incident (civil/criminal).
For Police Help:
- Emergency: For emergencies, you should dial 112 (TSP–112 Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)) to report Police, Fire, Medical, or GRP emergencies in Telangana. Dial 100 for direct access to the police control room in urgent situations.
- Report Cybercrime: To report cybercrime, call 1930 or register complaints through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.

To report an FIR to Telangana Police, choose either method:
- Offline: Visit the nearest Police Station to orally or in writing report the incident for both civil and criminal cases.
- Online (e-FIR): File an e-FIR (for unknown accused and non-SR cases only) via CCTNS Telangana.

- Complainant: Name and Current & Permanent Address
- Incident: Date, Location, and Details of the incident
- Description: Explain the incident with facts.
- Victim: Personal information, Address, and Statement (if any)
- Stolen Property (if any): Type (jewellery, luggage, electronics, etc.)

Level 2: Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Telangana State Police
At level 2, a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) is assigned to oversee law enforcement in each Range. If a case persists unresolved after contacting the District Superintendent of Police, escalate the matter to the respective Range DIG.
